The MiniMizer Regular gastric band offers the same benefits as the MiniMizer Extra. Only the retaining loops are missing. The MiniMizer Regular has no retaining loops, so the gastric band must be covered with a seromuscular plication. So where is the advantage?

Many surgeons prefer not to change their customary operative procedure, but want to use the 2-phase closure system for good reasons. They would like to choose the ideal inner diameter of the gastric band during the procedure. They need not perform a gastric band replacement in the case an incorrect band size has been chosen for that particular patient. The MiniMizer Regular gastric band offers two sizes in one.

A large number of surgeons appreciate the pre-formed gastric band, which allows it to be drawn easily through the posterior tunnelling of the stomach and facilitates placement. In many cases, the decision as to the size, i.e. diameter, of the gastric band best-suited for a given patient can only be made during the operation. Here too, surgeons have the option to decide intra-operatively, because MiniMizer products feature a 2-phase closure system.

The first closure phase corresponds to an inner diameter of 31 mm and a gastric band length of about 11 cm. The surgeon recognises whether this diameter is the right one for the patient during the procedure. Should he prefer a smaller diameter, the second closure phase can be used. The second closure phase corresponds to an inner diameter of 26 mm and a gastric band length of about 10 cm. The MiniMizer closure instrument helps close the gastric band very easily. It should be used to close gastric bands during every procedure. The MiniMizer Port is easily recognised on x-ray images. Its size makes it very patient-friendly and also very easy to puncture.
